Glyptodon

Progenitor to the armadillo, both creatures share structural similarities.

Keeping to the coast, Glyptodon fed on plants. Protected by its shell, others desired the same protection and hunted for it. This spectacular shell was the combination of one thousand, one inch thick skeletal plates. Like turtles, each species had its own pattern and style of shell. Although they could not retract their head or tail, Glyptodons were fitted with bones to protect both parts.

Fun Facts: Glyptodon was similar in size and weight to a Volkswagen Beetle.
